Roots and Petals
Roots and Petals is a body of work that explores flowers and plants as symbols of memory, culture, and identity. I focus on the lotus, marigold, frangipani, hibiscus, and rose, each carrying meaning from my Indian heritage and my personal experiences. These flowers connect me to childhood memories with my grandmother, a botanist, while also representing ideas such as purity, resilience, love, and celebration.
I reimagine these forms through painting, sewing, mixed media, and graffiti, combining traditional symbolism with modern techniques. Gold leaf, clay, fabric, and bold color choices let me play with texture and scale, showing that flowers are not only delicate but also powerful. Through Roots and Petals, I want to share how nature can carry stories of culture, family, and emotion in both personal and universal ways.
